From the hills of Morgantown, WV, John Kolar is a guitarist, piano player, vocalist, bassist, composer, producer, mixing engineer, and mastering engineer with rock, pop, country, and jazz influences. John’s debut album “Color Blind” is a blend of various genres and was written, produced, recorded, and mixed by John.

At West Virginia University (WVU), John earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with minors in Music Technology and Physics. In the audio engineering industry, John has worked at WVU as an audiovisual technician, for Bose Corporation as an acoustic/software engineer, and at Arup as an architectural acoustics consultant. He also received a Fulbright Scholarship, where he spent a year in Poland teaching English to undergraduate Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science students at Poznan University of Technology. John received his master’s degree in Music & Technology at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.

With over 19,000 followers on Instagram and over 10,000 followers on TikTok, John regularly posts music theory, audio engineering, and music performance content that is both entertaining and educational.

John works as an audio engineering professor at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, where he teaches production, mixing, acoustics, electronics, and performance classes to undergraduate students in the School of Music. John’s teaching inspires his music, as mentoring his students to find their own musical voices helps him to find his own.

John enjoys growing vegetables in his garden and riding his bicycle without training wheels.
